A New Leader in 2010 After three years on the Southern Downs, Lewis von Stieglitz has been appointed Warwick Credit Union CEO and is not fazed by the uncertain economic environment.Mr von Stieglitz brings to the role 24 years of experience in the finance industry.
“Our job is to prudently manage the risks so our members are well protected,” Mr von Stieglitz said.“That means keeping up our lending while paying good rates of return on savings and investments".
”Born in Canberra, he moved with his family to Toowoomba at the age of 11 and finished his education at Toowoomba Grammar School.He then studied at the University of New England and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in ancient history and a Master of Business Administration degree.“I did ancient history to broaden my education, it has taught me to think as well as talk about money,” Mr von Stieglitz said. |
After graduation, he joined the Commonwealth Bank at the Homebush branch in Sydney.
After 17 years in retail and corporate banking, Mr von Stieglitz and his family moved to Darwin where he was head of banking products at the Territory Insurance Office for two years.
He was appointed Warwick Credit Union head of operations almost three years ago and has been acting CEO for the three months since former CEO John Brown retired.
The WCU made the new appointment after an exhaustive selection process following the receipt of 50 applications.Mr von Stieglitz has no problems answering the “Why Warwick?” question.“Warwick is a place where you can deal with people face to face,” he said.
